This is approximately the view. Where we park (and eat) is a few hundred feet back.Anyway, we noticed a lot of zodiac whale-watching boats hanging out off shore. We usually see them flying past us, loaded with tourists. Just as we were beginning to ponder this strange state of affairs, a large black fin rose out of the water followed by the back of an orca whale. We both stopped eating and stared intently at the ocean surface. Sure enough, it happened again and again. We don't know what brought the pod in so close to shore in a high-traffic area, but it made our egg sandwiches all that much more delicious.

In other whale news, I am starting to feel like one. Standing, sitting, walking - no problem. Lying down? Not so much fun. As I mentioned, my sleeping positions are limited now out of fear of squishing the little one. What I hadn't bargained for, however, were the searing muscle pains in my abdomen any time I try to change position at normal speed. Am I paying for a lifetime of not doing situps?
