Kicking Tires

While I have been amazed, in wonder, enthralled, and feeling like the luckiest man on earth so far in our pregnancy. Beyond reading all that I can in order to support my love and our growing baby, and providing support to my love, there has only been so much that I could be directly involved in. Then we started looking at strollers.

Choices like fancy wheels, independent sport suspension, disk brakes, cup holders, leather, chrome, graphite & hand-lacquered wood have got me enthralled and kicked the research part of my persona into high gear. After reading Consumer Reports, ePinions, and countless other review sources. We found the stroller we wanted. It may not be outrageous like the graphite & leather Maclaren, and so we won't be trendy like Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes, or Angelina Jolie, but it has everything we wanted. It is safe, practical, sturdy, and also designed for cruising off road. It is more like a Miata, than an Austin Healey, but quite suitable for the fruits of my loins to be squired about in.

Then, while searching about I saw it. It looked just like the pram I'd grown up with. This is precisely what I envisioned myself promenading my progeny about in. This one is neither a Miata, nor a Healey, but a Bentley. The Silver Cross Balmoral. The Balmoral is a masterpiece of pram engineering. Each steel bodied Balmoral pram rides upon a hand sprung chassis, cushioned with leather suspension straps and hand spoked wheels. The ride of this iconic pram is unsurpassed as the freely suspended body absorbs the shock as it moves along the ground. It is handmade in every way, with each detail painstakingly checked and crafted to exacting standards. For over 129 years, Silver Cross has been handcrafting traditional prams in Northern England. These exquisite works of art are the hallmark of the Silver Cross heritage.

Some may view this contraption as an indulgence, and surely it comes in at well more than my first several cars combined, but being a man who views automobiles as kinetic sculptures, I've learned to view strollers in much the same way. My children are the greatest thing I can be a part of creating in this world, and it is fitting for them to travel around in something that approaches their beauty and greatness.

My darling son-in-law, you have infinitely good taste and your approach to this new adventure, makes me smile and feel content that all is well.

You'll find that the most important criteria is how easily it folds and unfolds! And how heavy it is to haul in and out of the car. Oh you naive first-time parents . . .:-)
