Benjy Bear

This blog post is pretty incoherent, but if I spend too much time worrying about its literary merit, it will never get written...

Poor Benjy hasn't been getting nearly as much blog-attention as Kiv did in his first few weeks. Partly this is due to the fact that I can rarely type more than a paragraph before one of the boys needs/wants/demands my attention. Right now it's after midnight and they are both asleep. Generally, if they are both asleep, so am I. Instead I'm up late updating the blog...

Who is Benjy? He's pretty relaxed most of the time. I wear him in our Cuddlywrap baby carrier much of the day. This way I have hands free to tend to Kiv and house things while keeping him close. He sleeps or sometimes wakes up to look around. I've noticed that he's less fussy than Kiv was at this age. Benjy doesn't like to be put down (just like Kiv), but we didn't have the Cuddlywrap until Kiv was 3 months old, I think. What I'm trying to say (in my sleep-deprived brain) is that I think having Benjy close has made a difference. With Kiv I either held him or did housework - I didn't do both at the same time. We did have a different carrier, but it wasn't as cozy as the Cuddlywrap.

Benjy has started to look a little more like Kiv. I see a lot more of my family in his looks.

Benjy is working on holding his head up and has already spontaneously smiled several times (not sleepy-grins). He has this adorable and heart-rending high-pitched squeal when he cries and his lower lip trembles between wails. I can deny him nothing.

He's a pretty go-with-the-flow kid (probably out of necessity). He already shows interest in watching Kiv. Kiv is very good with him most of the time. When Benjy cries, Kiv sings to him. If Benjy is in his bouncy seat or swing, Kiv will rub his head or dance for him. Kiv doesn't do double consonants yet, so 'Benjy' sounds like 'Bezhy'. He's getting the 'th' thing down, though. It took me a while to figure out that he meant 'moth' when he says 'thoth'.

Back to Benjy... poor kid has baby acne. Kiv had it at exactly this age. It will clear up soon. I'm still windering if his hair is going to lighten up. It seemed that Kiv's was this dark, but looking back at pics it was actually quite a bit lighter. I think our Benjy will have hazel eyes.

What else to say about Benjy at 6 weeks? He's a serious little guy who loves to be held close. He gives me kisses by turning his head and rooting at my mouth when I hold him against my shoulder. I love this. He's very kissable and has cute little baby-sized ears. His legs are just developing chub rolls - he's a long and lean little guy and his double-shin finally arrived. He was almost 13 lbs at the midwife the other day.

Ok, I'm stopping for now - off to cuddle my boys in bed. It's a mommy sandwich these days with Kiv on my left and Benjy on my right. I'm cozy and warm all night.
