Sleepless Night

These days it's anyone's guess as to whether or not I will be able to sleep on any given night. Some nights, I sleep like a baby. Other nights, just as I'm dropping off to sleep, some part of my body decides it's uncomfortable and it must be moved NOW! I've tried everything they suggest in the pregnancy books - piling pillows around myself, having a nice bath, drinking a glass of milk. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.

Last night was a sleepless night. I was exhausted having spent Monday washing the walls of the guest/baby's room and yesterday taping and painting. Today I conquer the trim and possibly the two pieces of furniture that will get painted (my heirloom dresser and a second-hand rocking chair) the same color as the trim. I'll post pics of everything once it's completely finished.

Monday night Mark and I went to see a concert by Great Big Sea - a Canadian band out of St. Johns, Newfoundland. I became a fan last summer (strangely enough right before I met Mark) and had planned to attend their concert in March in Ann Arbor before I knew that we would be getting married right around that time. Anyway, the concert was outdoors in a plaza formed by Victoria City Hall and offices and was an apporpriate end-of-summer farewell.

I had been dreading the end of the summer because I thought I would find myself missing school too much. I do miss the excitement of a new school year, but not as much as I had thought I would. Instead, a certain nesting instinct has taken over. Not only did I paint an entire room today, I also spontaneously cleaned and organized our own bedroom at 9pm. When I finally was tucked into bed with my new book (the oddly-pleasing Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy - possibly the first campy pregnancy book I've actually enjoyed and not cringed at), I couldn't keep my mind off the dishes in the sink. I tried to make it go away, really. Never before in my life have I had a problem leaving dishes overnight in the sink. Not tonight, however. At last I gave in and went to the kitchen to scrub them all clean. Go figure.

Now, dawn is arriving here in Victoria. The sky is seeping from deep blue to the pale green that arrives before the sun. I'm going back to bed to try to catch at least another few minutes of zzzz's.
